When the world around you feels like it is spiralling out of control, it is easy to feel ungrounded and stressed. It is during these times more than ever that you ground yourself and practice self care to stay centred. Read below for Jac’s 6 Tips.
1. Go for a Walk
There is something about going for a walk, rain or shine, that smartens you up real quick. I always put on music or a podcast and focus on all the beautiful things around me. 15-20 minutes is all it takes to completely turn your mood around.
2. Do the 5 Senses Meditation
5 Things you can see, 4 Things you can feel, 3 Things you can hear, 2 Things you can smell, 1 Thing you can taste.
*This is SO simple yet SO effective!
3. Do a Quick Journal – 3×3 Method
If you know me you know I swear by this. 3 things you want to release, 3 things you are grateful for, 3 things you want to get done (and go do all 3).
I release – 1) my anxiety and stress and breathe into the present moment, 2) my negative self-talk about my body, 3) my need to control everything.
I am grateful for – 1) Being able to move my body and nourish it, 2) My loved ones health and safety, 3) Sunny blue skies and birds singing.
To do List – 1) Do a load of laundry, 2) Complete 30 Minutes of Movement, 3) Go for a walk outside.
4. Do Something Productive
You know that instant gratification you get from completing something on your to do list? It is one of the simplest ways to turn your mood around. It could be as small as do a load of laundry, write a blog post or clean out the fridge — But I promise you it will help you feel happier and more productive!
5. Workout/Dance to your Favourite Song
I swear this works. I used to laugh at it — But holy it can turn your whole mood around. Put your headphones in, play your favourite song and either workout to it or dance it out for a hot minute!
*Bonus Points if you make it a cardio move during your workout
6. Take a 5-30 Minute Break
When work, social media, the news, family etc. is consuming you it is so easily to go into a quick spiral. The best advice is to simply walk away for a 5-30 minute breather. Put the phone down. Close the computer. Get out of the house. I promise this will help recenter you!
7. Book/Schedule an Act of Self Care
Though this might not provide instant relief if you are booking an act of self-care, the thought of setting time aside for yourself for a massage and taking 3 deep breaths can help centre yourself immediately. And let’s be real, if you DON’T have a massage, facial, mani or pedi booked REGULARLY in your calendar — We need to chat.
